ABOUT NICOLAS COSEDIS

A View from Above
I photograph the world from the sky, always with the window open when flying in a small Cessna 172 or with the door removed entirely when working from a helicopter. For more than 20 years I have worked as a professional photographer. In the early years, while focusing on commercial photography, I began taking aerial photographs on the side whenever I could.
The defining moment came in 2007, during my first flight with professional equipment over New York. That experience lit a spark that shaped everything that followed. Over time, what began as a side pursuit became my main focus and the true passion that I have dedicated myself to. Flying and photographing from above has long since become the artistic space where I feel most alive.
Although I have photographed many places across Europe, it is Copenhagen that continues to inspire me the most. Whether in the stillness of winter or the heat of summer, I return to the sky again and again. I am especially drawn to the twilight hours when the city changes mood and light meets architecture in ways that reveal something new every time.

The Beauty in Geometry
My attention is not limited to landmarks. I am just as drawn to the unnoticed. I search for patterns and rhythms that emerge from above. Lines, forms, and textures reveal a kind of visual order that is rarely seen from the ground. Sometimes it is perfect symmetry, sometimes the beauty lies in how that symmetry breaks ever so slightly.
I find a quiet poetry in the rooftops, courtyards, roads, and repetitions that define the urban landscape. What often goes unobserved becomes visible from the air, and in those overlooked details I often find my strongest images.

Light, Change, and Memory
Though my work belongs to the world of fine art photography, it also serves as a kind of documentation. I am interested in how places look right now. The world is always changing, and photographing from above allows me to record those transitions in real time. Every image becomes a record of something fleeting.
Light plays a central role in everything I do, especially the brief window at dusk when the city begins to glow and shift character. That is when architecture, history, and atmosphere combine in a way that feels almost cinematic. I try to preserve those moments before they pass, capturing not just a city but a living memory of how it once looked.
I hope to share this perspective with those who visit my gallery in Sølvgade, where my prints and books are on display. If you find beauty in the way the world looks from above, you are always welcome.
